Does God reign unchallenged in the temple of your heart?

What are my priorities?
God   Family   Friends   School  Job  Health   Ministry  Career

Last night the roommates and I went to Generate. It was week 2 of their Confessions series. The question Tony asked over and over again was Does God Reign Unchallenged In The Temple Of Your Heart? Above everything else in your life, is God first? The message focused on Matthew 10: 32-39

"Therefore everyone who confesses Me before men, I will also confess Him before My father who is in heaven. But whoever denies Me before me, I will also deny him before My father who is in heaven.
Do not think that I came to being peace on earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I came to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; and a man's enemies will be the members of his household.

He who loves his father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; and he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. He who has found his life will lose it, and he who has lost his life for My sake will find it."

wow! what a harsh yet confusing passage. Your enemies live in your household? The Lord does not come to bring peace?  The Lord wants to be everything in our lives. The absolute reigning number one desire of our heart. so we ask ourselves these questions:: What are our priorities? What do I value? What do I treasure?
Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
Matthew 6:21
So, if God is not reigning completely in the center of our hearts, what is?
Tony brought up so many different things, things that might have even been a joy or blessing, but slowly became our number one focus. Even things such as our image, insecurity, addictions, our friends.

Another thought: In my greatest joy/accomplishment/sorrow/rock bottom moments, who do I call upon?

"and He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed."
1 Peter 2:24

so at the end of the night we were challenged. We were challenged to come to the alter, and give it all away. Confess everything to our Savior, and crown Him the ruler of our hearts.
