Yesterday morning Kay Warren spoke in chapel. It was incredible. She is such an amazing Woman of God, battling cancer and the brain tumor of her daughter in law. Yet, she still has an enormous heart for the Lord. The passage she focused on was Mark 8:34:
"If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow Me."
Jesus does not want us to be a part of the crowd and multitudes that just followed after Him. He wants us to deny every single part of our being, and be completely His. Set apart from the crowd. Let the Lord get into the soil of our heart, and become a disciple for Him.
God wants us to totally and completely surrender to Him. Why don't we like surrender? Well, we like control ( I am VERY guilty!) We don't trust God fully, if we let Him have our everything, what if something happens? or we let God have MOST of ourselves, but not everything. Those who have with held nothing from God, have access to His power, comfort and presence.
So, Kay challenged us. She challenged us to become gloriously ruined by the power of Jesus Christ. We need to completely surrender everything to Christ, and let Him ruin us for His sake. Lets become disturbed about the things of this world, and make the invisible God, visible to those who do not understand.
Colossians 1:15
"He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by Him all things were created"
As I had a chance to chew on that for the remainder of the day, I was finding myself excited to get gloriously ruined by Christ. What a concept, huh? So, my next plans were to take one of my FOCUS students, and head to Generate. Keep in mind that I was thinking of chapel for the entire day, and then Tony shared this:
We are a defined generation. People look at us, and we are GenY. People see us as a bunch of "tweny somethings" but to God, we are "Twenty Someones" .
He spent the evening saying this quote, that really shook my world:
God loves you enough to care where you are going, and what you are doing, but He cares even more about who you are becoming.
Who we are, and our character today, will be amplified in the next 10-15 years of our lives. Who am I becoming?
At this time in our lives, we focus our eyes on others. The ones who are getting good jobs, the ones who are getting married, and thinking, why isn't this just falling into place for me? The Lord hates when we do this.
In Psalm 37 the Lord tells us to DELIGHT in Him, and He will give us the desires of our hearts.
Prioritize God above all else, and give Him complete 100% surrender.
If you completely and utterly give the Lord every fiber of your being for surrender, your desires will be changed, and you will be delighted for the Lord.
I have a choice now, of what I am going to be. I cannot worry what the future holds. (though I am a very future minded person!) Stop waiting for someone and start looking at THE ONE.
I need to put down the road map that I think I am going on, and let God lead me where I need to go. God fulfills every single want and need in our lives.
Micah 6:8 - Walk humbly with the Lord.
I realize this is a very lengthy blog, and might not make as much sense as it did when I heard these messages. But these really rocked my world. I pray that I am going to be gloriously ruined by God and give Him complete control of everything I am, and everything I am becoming.
