okay. so I decided to really take my time reading my new book. Im reading a little slow because I keep jotting down notes and thoughts as I go. I have gotten through the first section which talks about memorizing scripture and meditation. To be completely honest, I wasn't sure I would get much out of this section....but wow. I was completely off. Memorizing scripture is something that most christians do not take seriously enough. God's word is our sword and we need to always be sharpening its edges. I know quite a few verses that I can bust out on a given day, but do I REALLY know God's word?
This really challenged me to start sharpening my swords and grow my knowledge of the perfect book.
But not only memorizing scripture, also meditating on it constantly. Meditation is something I am not a whole lot familiar with. We associate meditation with a lot of the new age beliefs. but meditation is actually very Biblical. Christian meditation involves filling your mind with God and truth. When meditating on the Bible, the goal is not to achieve complete mental passivity, yet be very constructive in each thought that the Lord gives you. The goal for all of this memorization and meditation is to know the Word of God so it can transform our minds and also our lives. Lets start saturating our conversations with scripture.
So I decided I really needed to start saturating my mind and my life with the word of God. How do I start to do this? Well. the only way I could think of was to jump into God's word and start memorizing it.
I decided to start with more simple verses, and grow my reservoir. Today I chose Philippians 4:4-6.
"Rejoice in the Lord always, again I will say Rejoice. Let your gentle spirit be known to all men. The Lord is near. Be anxious for nothing but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving make your requests known to God."
So- if you see me around this week, ask me if I know this :)
